This is also one of the parenting challenge and I feel by just adopting few simple skills, we can promote this behaviour. Come lets see few examples that would help us to understand it better.
- Slow and steady wins the race : I have stopped repeating myself. Don't force the child to say something which they don't mean. When they ask for water or anything and forget to say please then sometime its repeat after them. Like - Water Please.. this would gradually sink into them.
- Ignore : For a while its good to ignore the child if he is not saying thank you or please. I sometime just stand and wait for my son to respond with thank you and it just takes few seconds for him to realise that he has to say ' Thank you'
- Fun on the way : Children loves the story telling session and often relate themselves to the different characters in the story. Try and tell them story about this boy, who was very respectful and always used to say thank you and please to everyone. This would make an impression in his mind and he would act like this boy. Reward the child for his greatest behaviour.
I know all of us want our children to display the best behaviour and use these wonderful words all the time. However, please remember that you can never force them to do something, which they don't mean so be calm and try out these little tips and I am sure that you would see the change in the little one's.
